The Minerals Development Fund (MDF) has secured a major investment deal with the Hunan Isunte (Yixintai) Group aimed at transforming economic prospects for Ghanaians living in mining communities.

The agreement, signed at The Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in Changsha, China, is expected to create over 10,000 job opportunities in mining communities in Ghana.

According to the Administrator of the MDF, Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, the project is designed to provide alternative livelihood opportunities for residents in mining-affected areas in line with the fund’s mandate to support sustainable development.

She added that the initiative will introduce large-scale cultivation and processing of the Ramie plant, sustainable fibre crop across selected regions.

“This deal marks a significant milestone in Ghana-China cooperation and a major leap toward inclusive development in our mining communities,” she stated.

The initiative is expected to offer skills training, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities for youth and women in affected communities, aligning with Ghana’s broader goals of rural industrialisation and poverty reduction.

The signing ceremony brought together stakeholders across the public and private sectors, reinforcing Ghana’s growing strategic ties with China in trade, agriculture, and industrial development.
